Series of screen prints (A4 – A2) and digital photography for an artist book and exhibition, 2017-18
Die Gläserne Kette or ‘Glass chain’ was a creative written and visual correspondence between a group of 15 German modernist utopian artists and architects amongst whom Walter Gropius of the later Bauhaus, which took place between 1919-20 in the early years of the Weimarer Republic.
To celebrate the autogeneous and visionary spirit of the group a century after, fellow visual artist Cath Keay curated a new exchange inspired by the original letters. Just like our forebears, we used pseudonyms, however our correspondence took place on an online platform. Our visual and written responses were compiled into artist book (edition of 300) and have also been exhibited alongside the works of the original Glass chain artists. Taking part in this project has been inspiring in many ways, leading to a dialogue with science through the crystallography thesis of my father.
